Explaining the meaning behind one’s artwork can be a dangerous thing and I generally steer clear of it.
In today’s gallery and museum world we are often subjected to paragraph upon paragraph of wall text “explaining” the meaning of a piece of art, why it’s important, what the artist was trying to do, etc. However, I personally do not like reading such text and, when it comes to my own artwork, I tend to believe the less explanation the better.
